Farmer’s Market Pizza Party Feb 16 Written By Ryan Gambel Just when I thought New York was about to start getting warmer… a cold front came through! Luckily pizza always cheers me up. Plus, using local and fresh ingredients makes it healthy-ish so there is no need to feel guilty for a third helping! Most every city has a farmers market. I always start there for the best ingredients. I love going to the Union Square Green Market because the ingredients are farmed in a 200 mile radius of the city! Although the market is much smaller in the winter they still have many great vendors. One of my favorites was Ardith Mae farms because they had a delightful lavender goat cheese spread! For my pizza party, salad was a must! I just used ingredients that I already was planning to use on the pizza. A salad is a great way to use left over veggies and fruits!Ingredients: SpinachArugula1 PearCrumbled Goat CheesePinch of pepperCrushed almonds or walnutsDressing:1/4 cup of Olive oil1 Tbls of Mustard2 Tbls of Balsamic vinegarPinch of Salt and PepperMix the salad ingredients together. In a separate small bowl whisk the dressing ingredients together. Pour dressing on top right before serving. Add edible flowers for a perfect touch that your guests will love. The first pizza I made was a Greek pizza! I was able to find cherry tomatoes, red onions, feta, and garlic at the local farmers market.Ingredients:Trader Joe’s pizza dough (1 pack can make 2 pizzas)1 pack of feta cheese2 handfuls of spinachYellow and red cherry tomatoes 1 red onion1 garlic clove1/4 cup of Trader Joe’s Artichoke Pitted black olivesGround CornmealPreheat the oven to 450 degrees and roll out the dough. Use flour so the dough does not stick to your fingers. Sprinkle cornmeal on your pizza stone (or pan) and lay the dough on top. Rub a little olive oil on top. Sprinkle the feta on the dough. And then add spinach, minced garlic, tomatoes and onions. Put in the over for 12 min. Add olives and artichoke and place back in the oven for 5 min or until crust is golden brown.Let cool and enjoy! Next I made an arugula pear pizza. This was one of my favorite pizzas!Ingredients:Goat cheese1 pear1 pack of prosciutto 1 sweet onionArugulaA pinch of pepperPreheat the oven to 500. While the oven is preheating sauté the chopped sweet onion. Follow the first step and roll out the dough and put it on the pizza stone.Next add the goat cheese, pears, and sweet onions. Place in the oven for 10 min. After, add the prosciutto and place back into the oven for 5 more minutes or until golden brown.Once the pizza is cooked, remove from the oven and add the arugula. Drizzle a little bit of balsamic to taste. To complete this meal make lemonade but instead of using tap water use club soda. Top off the drink with ginger beer. Add lemon and rosemary garnish Ryan Gambel
